I had a pleasure of working with Joselyn and her mom planning her fun beach senior portraits. We were blessed with perfect weather on this New England evening in August at Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, MA. We wanted to make sure we incorporated her love for dance and mother nature gifted us with a perfect sunset just in time for her ballerina ensemble.
I had the pleasure to meet and work with this wonderful family. It was a hot and bright morning on Hampton Beach, NH but that did stop this little guy. Thankfully we had a chance to cool off in his adorable room.
When the Wells family reached out to me to let me know they were pregnant with their third daughter I was beyond thrilled. We’ve been photographing them since their engagement back in 2009. I have loved watching their family grow. They are adoring parents to their two bright and hilarious daughters.
However as I read further into the email, my heart sank into the deepest part of my soul. Their sweet little baby girl was just diagnosed with Trisomy 13 a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome. What this means is that if the baby makes it through birth there is only a 9% survival rate with lots of not so great physical conditions. It’s truly heartbreaking.
They chose this particular beach because Mike, the father, has grown up spending his summers here and they now do the same with their family. It was important that baby Hazel is a part of that too.
Going into the session I knew that this was more that just any other bump session. This is a time of hope and happiness while she is has a physical place in her family. While she is due next month, all that can be done is giving this baby all the unconditional love she deserves and hope for the best possible outcome.
